Since its beginning, the club has worked to spruce up public spaces, such as planting trees in Pawtuxet Village and advocating for removal of its billboards. We designed and now maintain three gardens and support other community beautification efforts.
Stillhouse Cove
In 2012, the club planted more than a dozen plant varieties native to our region to enhance the Memorial Rock commemorating the burning of the H.M.S. Gaspee in 1772. The garden of drought-and-salt-tolerant plants is dedicated to a beloved former club member. Over time, some “overly-exuberant” plants have been reduced and others added. We have been caring for Stillhouse Cove since the early years of the club.

William Hall Library
In 2017, the club re-designed a planter by an entrance to the William H. Hall Free Library to introduce a sensory garden, selected plants engage visitors’ senses of smell, sight, touch, taste, and sound. The EGC also takes care in decorating the inside and outside of the library during Christmas time.
Commercial Street Playground
After a re-design of the playground by the City of Cranston and local citizens in 2006, the club created a naturalized garden to attract and sustain pollinators such as butterflies and bees. We have maintained the gardens at the playground since then.
Edgewood Schools
Over several years, the club has funded the building of raised beds in the elementary school’s side yard and other instructional materials to encourage growing vegetables and flowers. Many EGC kids involved in the Youth Group attended or currently attend E.S. Rhodes Elementary School. Support has also been given to other area schools, including Edgewood Highlands Elementary School and Park View Middle School.

Arbour Day
The club observes the national tree-planting tradition of Arbor Day each April. Since the club was formed, we’ve planted of trees at the Hall library, at schools, churches, parks and along streets.
